Avon Haul

Avon Calling!

This is an older haul and the photo has been sitting on my camera so to do some picture purging, I figured I might as well post this.  I mean, better late than never right?  I submitted this order when Avon was running a deal with Fergie perfumes and I got 2 bottles for the price of 1 or it was a buy one get one 50% off.  Since I owned one of the Fergie perfumes, I figured I might as well get the other 2 since I enjoyed the one I had.  I made sure to look up reviews and they ranged from all across the board, but for the most part the reviews were pleasantly positive.

Since I’ve also been looking into serums, when Avon launched their clinical multi-tone skin corrector serum I decided to pick it up. Since it was an introductory product, I got it for a little bit less than its future price.  I admit, I have not tried this yet, but since I’m trying a new serum at the moment, this one will be on the back burner until I’m done with that serum.

Here’s what I ordered:
  • Fergie Outspoken perfume
  • Fergie Outspoken Intense perfume
  • Anew Clinical Absolute Even Multi-Tone skin Corrector

QUESTION:
Have you tried any new Avon products as of late?

Haul: Wonderstruck Perfume Knockoffs

I popped into Big Lots last week and noticed they had a wide range of new knock-off perfumes available. Up until last year, I refused to purchase knock-off perfumes ... but I tried the knock-off Sarah Jessica Parker perfume and was astonished as to how much it smelled like the original. Since then I've given knock-off perfumes a sniff when I've spotted them in stores.

I've wanted the Taylor Swift perfume for a while now. Last Christmas I purchased the 0.5 fl oz gift set at CVS and have been using it as sparingly as possible.  Then when Taylor Swift released Wonderstruck Enchanted I was in love with that and wanted that.  So when I spotted these two knock-offs at Big Lots, I gave them a whirl and I was truly surprised with how much they smell like the originals. So for $3.50/ea I picked them up.  I'm on a bit of a budget right now and spending $100+ on perfumes for myself isn't in the books ... so $7 for two for the moment is doable.

QUESTION:
Have you smelled any knock-off perfumes lately that you were surprised smelled so much like the originals?

Haul: Jimmy Choo Eau de Parfum

I have wanted the Jimmy Choo perfume for well over a year. For a while I was stalking websites seeing who had it for the best price. I then talked myself out of it because I bought myself something else … and then I started watching the prices for the perfume on Amazon.  I almost purchased it, but then I started Googling (which is a good and bad habit to have) and was concerned as to if Amazon would be getting the perfume from a reputable seller (meaning it would be legit and not a fake).

Needless to say I didn’t purchase it … but I did have this on my Christmas list this year. That is, it WAS on my Christmas list until I went to Walgreen’s on Saturday. I originally went into Walgreen’s to simply pick up soda and decided I’d check the clearance shelf out back – not really expecting anything since this is a fairly new Walgreen’s (they just opened less than a month ago).

Low-and-behold the clearance section was PACKED with stuff. I found so much good stuff there that I bought a boatload, but one of things I was most excited for was of course the Jimmy Choo Eau de Parfum! The greatest part? The perfume was on clearance for $35.79 – which is less than half price for the same bottle on the Sephora website. Talk about the deal of the century. SCORE!

QUESTION:
Have you scored any unsuspected items at Walgreen’s as of late?

Sephora Haul

This is a little bit of an older Sephora haul … but better late than never!

When I had popped into Sephora I noticed they had a few more shades of the Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation in stock.  When the line first launched and I finally got into Sephora they were completely wiped out and had been wiped out for more than a month.  Finally during this visit they had one option available in the medium.  I tried the tester on my skin and thought it was the wrong shade because I felt the yellow-undertone medium was more my shade.  The sales associate that was there felt this was my exact shade … so I took her advice and purchased it.

Then on the way to the checkout I spotted this fragrance sampler box.  The Prelude to a Kiss box includes 5 “Sephora Favorites” where the box was $20 and contains sample size perfumes for testing. Once I decide what scent is more up my alley, I can bring the little card inside and pick up a roller ball of my choice.  What really pushed me into purchasing this was the fact that Flowerbomb was one of the options.  Within the box the following fragrances are available: Chloe L’eau de Chloe, Gucci Guilty, Ralph Lauren Romance (which I own), Tocca Colette and Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb.

QUESTION:
Have you tried any of the products mentioned above?

Dots Knock-Off Perfume Haul

For a very long time I was anti-knock off perfumes. Almost two years ago I bought a bottle of knock-off Sarah Jessica Parker perfume which smelled EXACTLY like SJP NY and it changed my mind.  I know a lot of people are against buying knock off fragrances but to each their own.  I’ve since purchased a couple different knock-off perfumes from Big Lots.

When at Dots I noticed they had a Hello Kitty knock off perfume.  Now, I LOVE the Hello Kitty perfume but I think the nearly $60 price tag is a little ridiculous, especially for a perfume that would not be an everyday type of perfume for me.  The perfume was marked at $5 a box BUT there was a sale going on 3 for $10 – not including the Dot fragrances (bummer because there was one that was fabulous smelling).

The three perfumes I got are as follows:
-          Yes Yes (Paris Hilton Can-Can Impression)
-          Hello Cutie! (Hello Kitty Impression)
-          Hola! (Marc Jacobs Lola impression)

The Hello Cutie is undoubtedly gorgeous and relatively long lasting on the skin.  I liked the scent of Hola it was nice and floral and the girl that works there told me that Yes, Yes is one of their best sellers and typically sells out, so I decided to get it because it’s more of a fruity summer scent.

QUESTION:
Do you like knock off perfumes?

Review: Viva by Fergie Eau de Parfum Spray

I purchased this Fergie perfume through Avon after smelling the scent on one of those “scratch and sniff” sort of pages in the catalog.  I went into knowing that the scents are not always true to what you smell in the book, but I found that the scent lingered on my skin for quite a while and that it appeared to be very attractive against my bodies’ chemistry.

I purchased the fragrance at an introductory $19.99 (I believe it is not $29.99 in recent catalogs).  The bottle itself holds 1.7 fl oz of product.  I am not the greatest at explaining scents, so the scent described in the catalog is as such: “A sexy contradiction of captivating cool herbs spiked with fresh lavender and intriguing vetiver.

The fragrance is packaged in a clear glass bottle, with a silver triangular accent down the middle along with a pull off top. The liquid is a pretty lavender shade, which does not transfer, it applies to the skin and clothing clear.

The scent itself is, at least on my skin, a long lasting one.  I spritz it on in the morning and I can smell it on me throughout the afternoon.  It’s a “stronger scent”, not overly bold, but it’s just beautifully balanced to showcase its presence and beautifulness.  There’s a bit of a “spicy” element to it, thanks to the herbs, which I very much like, while it’s also soft enough to let the floral scent be noticed.  It’s undoubtedly a unique, layered scent that I’ve grown to love very much.

QUESTION:
Have you tried any of the Fergie perfumes sold through Avon?

Shannon’s Free Lady Gaga “Fame” Perfume Gift Set

Let me start this off by saying this certainly was not supposed to be free – but after a lot of back and fourth a credit was extended to my credit card as a “I’m sorry we screwed up.”

As most of us know, Lady Gaga came out with a new perfume titled Fame.  The perfume got a lot of notoriety because it’s a black liquid (which does not transfer to your clothing) and when she was telling people she wanted to make a fragrance she kind of said she wanted it to smell of blood and semen o.O.  I received a sample of the perfume at Sephora and ABSOLUTELY fell in love.  I was going to buy it right then in the store, but my boyfriend told me I should check online to see if I could get a better deal since it was the holiday season upon us.

I did a lot of searching online and the toss-up was between Macy’s and Ulta.  I decided to go with Ulta because of their reward program.  Not that it really matters because I don’t shop at Ulta very much because the one store near me is an hour away and it’s in the most horrendous excuse for a mall I’ve ever seen.  ANYWAY!

The Ulta website stated the gift set included a 3.4 fl oz bottle, a bar of soap and a 0.34 fl oz roller ball.  I clicked on the image associated with the description and the gift set shown was exactly what was listed on the website.  So I went back and fourth with myself “Do I really need this?” and I just bit the bullet, ordered it and about a week later it was delivered to my house.  Upon opening the box and pulling out the gift set I realized the gift set I received was for the 1.7 fl oz bottle.  I didn’t order that, so I sent Ulta an e-mail inquiring and on the next Monday (I sent the e-mail Saturday) I received a generic e-mail back telling me to ship it back to get the right product.

Then the cycle continued – I called Ulta since I figured talking to a human being would be easier than trying to get the problem across in e-mail.  After explaining to the customer service rep she forwarded an e-mail off (they have the weirdest chain of command BTW) and I got a call back from the customer service rep later in the day.  Basically saying we screwed up, but too bad for you. They thanked me for pointing out the mistake (?????) and said if I was still unsatisfied I could return it to get what I wanted – which isn’t even available to their store.  That made no sense to me, so I inquired further about well, if I bought product X and you sent me product Y shouldn’t you willingly exchange it for what I wanted?  Even if you admitted you made a mistake on your website, but you’d honor it since I didn’t make the change on their end.  I then get an e-mail from an apparent supervisor, who basically told me return it and get your money back and order it from another company that has what you want because the tech group made a mistake but there’s nothing they can do to fix it.  So that ticked me off.  I work in purchasing as a living and one thing that boggles my mind is bad customer service.  With so many businesses trying to save money and doing things online and preserve face, a little goes a long way and bad customer service echoes so much louder and clearer than good customer service (sadly).  So in an aggravated “fury” I e-mailed them back saying this is the worst level of customer service, provide me with a prepaid UPS label for return, credit me back once received and don’t expect business from me in the future.  Later on in the afternoon I got an e-mail back from the rep stating as a one-time courtesy they’d extend a credit to me for the amount paid and I could keep the product.

I was flabbergasted.  I wasn’t expecting that in the least but I do say it was a nice gesture on their behalf for remedying the situation.  Granted, I didn’t get the exact product I was looking for (size wise) but to get a set for free as an apology?  Thanks, Ulta.

Overdue Big Lots Haul!

This is a haul I feel I did forever ago.  Probably a month ago or so?  I’ve been meaning to post it but I just haven’t had the real time to sit and write a post.  Yeah, excuses, excuses.  Anyway.  I popped into Big Lots to get some of the Philosophy products Big Lots was selling not too long ago.  My store didn’t have as large of a selection of items as other stores seemed to receive.  Mine had two small displays at two side caps and that was all the items they carried (both were mirror images of one another).  No eye shadow sets, no nothing which is a bummer because that’s what I really wanted – well that and some blush.  But other than that I am happy with the items I purchased.  I love Big Lots because I can find some great deals there at times – whereas other times you need to be conscious of your prices or you’re going to flat out spend too much.

You’ll notice I picked up a knock off perfume.  I used to never do that, but I found some of the perfumes they sell at Big Lots smell pretty dead ringer for the real thing.  I love the Coach scent, but haven’t splurged as of yet to get a bottle and with this I don’t have to.

Here’s what I picked up:

-          St. Ives Fresh Skin – Moisturizing Olive Cleanser
-          Vaseline Clinical Therapy lotion
-          Touch perfume (a knock off to Coach’s perfume)
-          Philosophy – Shimmering Face Powder
-          Philosophy – Mineral Blush Duo
-          Philosophy – Angel Kiss Lip Gloss
-          Revlon Nail Enamel – Midnight Affair (791)
-          Revlon Nail Enamel – Kiss Me Coral (474)
-          Revlon Nail Enamel – Jaded Night
-          Revlon Nail Enamel – Alluring Amber
