Goody Ouchless Hair Ribbons

I received a pack of Goody Ouchless Hair Ribbons from Influenster for review purposes.  I admit when I received these, I was intrigued because I have heard so many great things about hair ribbons. Since I tend to wear my hair back in a ponytail, bun, etc. I felt I’d get some good use out of these.

Because I always have my hair tied back I am constantly purchasing hair elastics.  Goody makes some of the best particularly their Ouchless line.  I remember growing up and having hair elastics with the metal connector and it’d get tangled in my hair and rip portions of my hair out.  Trying to avoid that as much as possibly, I only purchase smooth edged hair elastics.

Firstly, these hair ribbons are adorable.  They fit perfectly over the wrist and give your arm some décor and I find they fit a lot nicer over the wrist and don’t “cut” into the wrist as regular elastics tend to do. The hair ribbons act as regular hair elastics do – you simply tie your hair back angling the end of the ribbon wherever you wish.  I find the ribbons do keep my hair back and they don't stretch out as easily as regular hair elastics

These are good for any age, at least in my opinion and come in a wide variety of colors to go with any outfit. Or if you’re into that sort of thing you can just wear them as “arm candy”.

I received my Influenster Sunkissed Voxbox!

I received my Influenster Sunkissed Voxbox!

I received an e-mail to complete a survey to see if I qualified for the box a couple months ago and a few weeks later received an e-mail advising that I was chosen to receive the Sunkissed Voxbox from Influenster!  I was pumped because I haven’t received a Voxbox in a while.  I had seen voxbox unboxings on Instagram and on blogs but those were for other voxboxes not the Sunkissed.

Low and behold the mail man was REALLY nice to me the other day because not only did he deliver my voxbox, but he also delivered a number of items I ordered from Target (sadly, they’re not for me, BUT they are for my niece).

Goody Tangle Fix

I spotted this Goody TangleFix gentle detangler brush at Walmart last week after almost purchasing the Tangle Teaser on Amazon.  Originally I found it (the Tangle Teaser) for $9.99 on Amazon and when I went to order it, it was $19.99 – err, put the brakes on – NO thank you at that price.  So when browsing around Walmart, I decided to head down the brush aisle (which I typically don’t do) and gasped when I saw this.  I grabbed it, put it in my cart, finished up my shopping and ran home.  It was under $8 and after using it, it was worth every single penny.

When I grow my hair out, my hair gets tangled quite easily.  When my hairs shorter I can comb the tangles out without a problem – but when my hair grows past my shoulders, forget it.  If I don’t slather conditioner into my hair while washing, I end up tugging my hair with my brush when I’m combing it through.

I have used this both wet and dry and I have to say it works perfectly both ways!  No pain, no tugging, just a quick and easy brushing.  The design of the brush simply gets rid of the tangles without tugging at my hair.  I don’t know how it does it – or the mechanics of it, but it’s phenomenal and I’m SO glad I have this in my life now. Worth the investment AND the hunt if you’re looking for something to make combing your hair a breeze.

SPOTTED: Goody Spin Pin & Modern Up Do ($1 ea!)

I spotted an entire display of Goody brand Spin Pin and Modern Up Do hair accessories at my local Dollar Tree in both the light (for lighter hair shades) and dark (for darker hair shades).  Like everything that is sold at Dollar Tree these are selling there for $1 each.  I have recently seen these on sale at major retailers for the full retail price, so I was surprised to see these at Dollar Tree.  I received my first box of Spin Pins in my Voxbox and I instantly fell in love – so I made sure I picked up another box of these at Dollar Tree for a back-up.  I also picked up one of the modern up do’s to leave in my purse and/or car glove compartment.

In case you are not aware of how amazing these products are – the spin pins will give you a flawless looking bun in a matter of seconds.  All you do is spin these corkscrew looking pins into your hair (it doesn’t hurt – if you’d like you can see my full review here: http://shannonseyeonbeauty.blogspot.com/2012/11/review-goody-spin-pins.html ) whereas the modern up do will give you a flawless looking up do in a matter of seconds.

REVIEW: Goody Spin Pins

I have seen the Goody Spin Pins at stores like Target and had never raised an eyebrow to them.  They always seemed like daunting little devices and I wasn’t positive that two little “cork screw” looking devices would work as a piece to hold my hair in – let alone get INTO my hair.  I never read the back of the box to see how they are used; I just assumed they’d be as torturous as bobby pins typically are in my hair.  Note: My hair is silky and thin-medium (depending on the day) so bobby pins and even hair ties tend to slide out of my hair, stab me in the skull, etc., etc.  With all that background “danger signs” when I received these in my Influenster Beauty Blogger Voxbox I was hesitant to use them.  In fact they are one of the last products for me to try out.  After using them – I really wonder what took me so long!

PACKAGING & PRICE:

The product comes packaged in a pink and green box with a clear plastic casing to showcase the product inside.  The pins are tied down to the inner cardboard to keep it from moving around in the box.  The products range in price dependent upon where you purchase, but for the most part it’s between the $5.79-6.29.  The lower price being Walmart (Target is 10 cents more) and the higher price being a pharmacy (Walgreens).

PRODUCT:

The pins themselves are harder metal pieces.  The edges are rounded so you don’t have to worry about gouging your skull. The design is sleek enough to spin into your hair, sturdy enough to hold and maneuver and textured in a way that’s not slippery against your fingertips.  They’re pretty sturdy pieces as well – they don’t blend by holding, etc.  The pins come in two shades – a light and a dark.  The light obviously for lighter hair colors (blond and dirty blondes) and dark for brunettes or folks with black hair.

PURCHASING:

These are available for purchase at almost all major retailers that sell Goody hair products.  Target, Walmart, CVS, and Walgreens while they are also available on websites such as Amazon and drugstore.com.  As mentioned above pricing varies based on the retailer but for the most part they fall between the $5.79-6.29 ranges (the prices can be slightly higher if purchased online).

OVERALL:

I would HIGHLY recommend these to anyone who is looking to simplify their hairdo.  This literally took me 10 seconds to do and it holds my hair pretty well.  I tend to touch my hair ALL DAY LONG (it’s a bad habit) especially since I have my hair in layers (which are growing out) I have different lengths to my hair, so the shorter lengths always tend to hang and/or do what they want.  The pins do a great job at keeping my hair back, in place and pretty cute and precise without the need or use of a hair tie, etc.  The pins spin in and out of the hair with ease, not pulling or tugging.  I was quite surprised at how easy they spun in and how pain free it was.

REVIEW: Goody Quikstyle - Absorbent Microfiber Paddle brush

 I went on a hunt for this hairbrush after seeing Krystal mention this in a post of hers.  I am letting my hair grow out (it’s currently past my shoulders) and I hardly ever blow-dry my hair.  I typically only let my hair air dry, which, especially when the weather changes and it starts to get cold out (or if it’s raining) my hair takes FOREVER to dry completely.  There have been days at work, where come 3pm my hair is still wet in places.  So when I saw this hairbrush I knew I had to find it, especially if it would help shorten the drying time of my hair.  The intriguing part of this whole thing is the product states it removes 30% of water in the hair.

PACKAGING & PRICE:
The hairbrush comes as shown in the photograph – the bristles are covered with a hard plastic exterior.  Price wise – I will admit it is a bit expensive – at least where drugstore hair brushes are concerned.  Prices do vary store to store, but this retails for $11.99 at Target, $11.96 at Walmart, and at CVS it’s around $13.50.  CVS does tend to do Buy 1 Get one 50% off specials so if you were going to be getting two of these it might be a bit of a savings on your wallet.

PRODUCT:
The hairbrush is pretty sturdy on its own and when you look at it, considering it’s a paddle brush, you expect it to be heavy in your hands.  It’s really very light.  Actually so light it takes a few uses before you get used to how it feels in your hands (due to how light it is).  The first few times I used it, I almost sent it sailing across the room.  I would only use this when your hair is wet (after having been in a towel after the shower).  What I do is when I remove the towel from my hair, I brush the top portions of my hair, and then I brush the underside of my hair.  I find when I brush the underside it really aids in speeding up the drying process.  On a cold day, my hair can be dry by 10am (I shower at 7am during the week).

I use this brush everyday and haven’t had any problems with it.  It doesn’t get smelly and gross (as I admit I suspected might happen).  Once the hairbrush dries after use, you can easily pull the excess hair it captured in it out and discard.  Whereas after a number of uses you can wash the brush with some shampoo and let it air dry by setting the brush to dry, sitting on the bristles.

PURCHASING:
The brush is pretty much available all over the place now – but when I purchased this, I went scouring high and low.  I’ve since seen them at Walmart, Target, CVS and Walgreens.  This is also available on Drugstore.com.  It is listed on Amazon, but it’s nearly $25 so I wouldn’t recommend that.

OVERALL:
I would highly recommend this hairbrush to anyone that has hair that they either air dry, or want to aid in quickening the drying time of their hair.  I’ve noticed a significant increase in the drying time of my hair.  This helps promote the healthiness of your hair since (if you can) it reduces the direct heat you would get from an air dryer.  Overall, I’m completely in love and I adore this thing!

Shannon’s Influenster Beauty Blogger VoxBox Unboxing!

Target Haul!

This is a few week old Target haul as the pictures have been sitting on my camera waiting for me to post them – so I figure it’s about time I get around to that!  This is really a dollar section, clearance section and random “it’s on sale so I must buy it” sort of haul.  When I had popped by the dollar section I noticed they had a lot of coffee related items – signs, coasters, stirrers, note pads, key chains, etc.  I decided to get the stirrers since I’m always grabbing for a big spoon to stir up my coffee in my travel mug.  I also got an 8-pack of coasters because I bring drinks into the bedroom with me and when I put something down that’s going to sweat, I don’t want the sweat to in turn ruin my bedside table or leave water rings on it.  So I figured I’d grab a pack to just throw under my drink wherever I decide to set it down.  But before I keep babbling, onto what I picked up:

-          4 pack stir sticks

-          8-pack Coaster that reads “I am only as strong as the coffee I drink & the hair spray I use.”

-          Aveeno Positively Radiant Antioxidant Infused Body Wash in White Peach + Ginger.  I seriously have been lusting over this body wash FOREVER because I LOVE the smell and it was on sale $4 so I grabbed it. I wish these were cheaper because I would seriously ONLY buy this body wash I love the scent that much.

Shannon’s Random Beauty Walmart Haul!

This is my haul from two weeks ago.  I popped into Walmart after running a slew of errands and did some random shopping.  I originally went into Walmart to get some B12 and Biotin and of course I can’t just go to one section and leave – I have to look around.  Otherwise, there’d be absolutely no use to go in ANY store.  At least in my book.  Honestly, I really wish someone would hire me full time as their personal shopper because that would be marvelous.

Here’s what I picked up:

-          Large Facial Cleansing Pads (Cotton rounds) – I know I could have gotten the smaller version at the dollar store, but I wanted the larger ones for now.

-          B12. This just helps me stay alert.  For a very long time I was really tired all the time and my doctor found my B12 was slightly low so she told me to take a B12 supplement and it really does help.

-          Biotin 1000mcg. Before I started taking these I was taking Gelatin for my nails but switched to Biotin to see if I could have some change in my hair and my skin.  I have noticed my nails are growing at an increased rate and are really strong.  My hair does feel slightly thicker, but I need to give that department a little more time before I say yay or nay.

-          Suction cup soap dish.  This is really crap. I bought it to put my Lush soaps on, I stuck it on the wall, walked out of the bathroom and 2 minutes later heard CRASH and my Lush soap was smashed into bits.  Fabulousness!

-          Goody Quikstyle hairbrush. I had seen Krystal feature a post about this and started peeking down random stores hair care aisles so I could get myself one.  I found them at CVS but they were a little under $14, so when I found it at Walmart I want to say it was $11.

-          Onyx Professionals 3-2-1 Dry nail polish drying spray. One thing I dislike about painting my nails is waiting the time it takes to dry.  So I purchased this.  That is BEFORE I saw a Yahoo Beauty feature saying you can dip your painted nails (air dried by 2 minutes) into really cold water and the water will “freeze” the polish on your nails.  You then pat your skin dry.

So there you have it, my Walmart haul!

Little Lunch Time Hauling!

I had to run an errand yesterday during lunch time (actually I had to return a salad I picked up at the grocery store because it was NOT good when I went to eat it at lunch).  Since I was going to end up just end up eating lunch at my desk I figured I'd run one more errand so I popped into Dollar Tree which is in the same parking lot as the grocery store.  I meandered around not really finding anything until I got to the hair accessories aisle.  I was surprised to see Goody brand hair ties and jaw clips.  I think it was Wendy who posted about Goody hair ties at Dollar Tree but the stores local to me do not usually carry Goody (outside of little kid headbands).  So I picked up a pack of two different shades.  I go through hair ties like water especially when I'm in a stage where I'm tieing my hair back a lot (which I am currently in).  Then again for $1 you can't go wrong since these can get pretty pricy even at Walmart.  The other item I picked up was a duo pack of Goody jaw clips.  These are the nice ones that I like because they tend to keep ALL my hair up, so I was happy to score these.  Not bad for $3 on lunch!
